Is It True That Cell Phones Are Not Allowed To Charge For Termination Of Contracts Some Time In The Future?

March 14th, 2010 admin 3 comments

If so...when will it take affect? Will it be all companies?
Does this mean that you can just go to the cell phone store and tell them that you want to terminate your service without encountering any fees? Will this hurt your credit?

there is an ongoing court case over this, however, it is extremely unlikely this this will be realized.
what would happen, is that phones would no longer be subsidized, so instead of paying $299 for the blackberry bold and a new contract, you would be paying $799 and a new contract.
or, they would arrange it so you would get the phone at a subsidized price, and because the case is only on the ETF, the carriers could charge you an outrageous price for the phone if you cancel it. So they could charge $2000 for the bold.
either way, its going to be bad for the consumer.
